Medical Qualities

Repton's Med Soc has welcomed Professor Wass, Head of Keele University Medical School. Speaking to a group of around 30 Reptonians, in the comfortable surroundings of the Beldam Hall, she provided a fascinating and thought provoking insight into what it means to be a doctor.

Professor Wass talked about what qualities it takes to be a professional, particularly a medical professional, the perception of doctors in society at present and how people’s opinions of doctors have changed over time.

MedSoc members were asked to design their own “baskets” of the qualities and personal traits they believe a professional should possess and Professor Wass concluded with how medical training has changed and developed in recent times, contrasting her past experiences in training with current teaching methods. All in all, it was an enjoyable and informative evening and pupils left with a better understanding of what to expect at university.... and beyond.
