Repton School MFL Society played host to an evening of Canapés, Conversing and Poetry in the school’s fabulous Textiles Studio to mark the October meeting of the society. Lower Sixth linguists received a canapé making lesson from Seasoned Cookery and prepared a sumptuous selection of French, German and Spanish inspired delights before the main event. The event itself enabled sixth formers who study in the Modern Foreign Language department to gather together with members of staff and invited guests to converse and listen to a wide range of readings, delivered by staff and students, as well as enjoy the culinary creations of the Lower Sixth. Readings ranged from classic to humorous and a full list of the readings can be found on www.reptonmfl.wordpress.com It was a very inclusive evening which provided ample opportunity for pupils to develop their language skills in a number of ways. My thanks go to all that were involved in the organisation and planning of the event; your contributions were greatly appreciated.
The MFL society meets monthly and is a society aimed at broadening the horizons of the pupils who study languages at Repton. Future events planned for this year include presentations on ‘The Propaganda Music of the Third Reich’ and ‘Parisian Art’ as well as visits from external speakers such as Anne Bitton, Director of The Language Corner Limited, a company which specialises in providing translation and interpretation services. Anne will be visiting Repton in March to discuss the role that languages play in her life and also the job opportunities available to language graduates.
