The Lent Term could not have got off to a better start with the Latham boys scooping the cup for overall winners at the annual House Unison competition held on Friday 27th January. The Upper Sixth chose 'Every Breath You Take' by The Police and the House produced a rendition which was described by the adjudicator as the "most moving" performance of the evening. As a professional opera singer himself, Matthew Brook certainly knew what he was looking for on stage, commenting in particular on the deportment of the boys - "you were performing from the moment you stepped on the stage" - the clear and precise diction - "I heard every word" - and the dynamic contrasts achieved by the assembled singers. He did not, in fact, have even the mildest criticism of the Latham performance. The overall standard was, yet again, as good as any year in living memory and one of any four or five Houses could have won the trophy, but 2012 was destined to be Latham's and this accolade is a wonderful addition to the 2011 title of overall Harmony winners. Singing in the House is as strong as it has ever been and long may it last!
