After years of near misses, Latham's athletes finally made amends on Friday 2nd July by winning the Boys Sports Day Cup. The competition had already started a few weeks ago when George Brockway and Matthew Dewis won the Junior and Senior 3000m respectively. On Thursday afternoon, the field events, traditionally Latham's weakness, took place. There were strong performances from top to bottom, however, as Daniel Hugill won the Intermediate Shot, Christian Priestley the Intermediate Javelin, and Dominic Chaffey the Intermediate Discus. Overnight, Latham therefore held the lead. On Friday morning, things could not have gone better with the track events as Latham stormed to victory in the open 4x400m. Seb Howle then won the Junior 100m, Daniel Sentance the Junior 400m, George Brockway the Junior 1500m, Christian Priestley the Intermediate 400m, and Matthew Dewis the Senior 1500m. The competition finished with the relays which were, once again, dominated by Latham's runners. The Junior team (Dykstra, Howle, Brockway and Garland) won the 4x100m, as did the Intermediate team (Perera, Chaffey, Lane and Priestley), before the Senior 12x100m team ended proceedings with yet another victory. These successes left Latham on 227 points, 30 ahead of New House. Having won both the Junior and Senior Steeplechase in Lent Term, and the Kropacsy Relays earlier this term, Latham can quite rightly boast of dominating the world of Repton athletics this year.
