Latham House continued

Latham has a reputation for being a warm, friendly and relaxed House, where year groups mix with a refreshing absence of inter-year hierarchy. There is a quiet sense of purpose during study time but Latham is no academic hot-house. Counted amongst our ranks are captains of school sports such as Hockey and Fives, musicians, choristers and actors whose contribution to House and School events is second-to-none; yet each and every Lathamite is valued for their individual talents and we are just as proud of the boy who tries his best as we are of the superstar. Lathamites are mature, polite, socially capable, and willing to give their all - long may it last!

The House itself was founded in 1857 and is the only House in Repton named after its original Housemaster, the Reverend Edward Latham. Originally based in the High Street, the House moved in 1918 to its current premises in Tanners Lane. Surrounded by playing fields and tennis courts on three sides, Latham enjoys a peaceful and idyllic location away from the hustle and bustle of the High Street, yet remains within striking distance of all the major school sites most notably the Chapel, music school, sports pitches and sports centre.

There are thirty study-bedrooms in the House and pupils begin in a room of three when they join in B-Block, though by the Sixth Form, boys enjoy single studies. After a complete refurbishment in 2005, facilities in the House now include three common rooms, two DVD players, a House collection of films, a pool table, a table-tennis table, two kitchenettes, a computer room, a laundry and a piano. If this is not enough then there is always Hebe, the Housemaster’s dog, to keep boys entertained!

Every Reptonian is proud of their House but none more so than Lathamites. We would love to welcome you to lunch so that you can experience for yourself the unique atmosphere which is Latham House.
