As part of this year’s Junior Literary Society programme, pupils are preparing for their LAMDA graded examinations in the Speaking of Verse and Prose.
The London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art is one of the oldest drama schools in the United Kingdom. The external, nationally recognised qualification aims to:
• Foster an appreciation of literature, poems and drama
• Support the creative, intellectual and social development of the individual as a whole
• Unlock the imagination and creative-thinking
• Develop communication skills
• Refine technical skills and artistry
• Develop self-confidence
The criteria for the theory element of the examination also requires pupils to learn and develop their understanding of verse and prose forms, which is directly relevant to their studies in GCSE English and English Literature. Equally, the qualification will also improve their Speaking and Listening skills, which are also assessed at GCSE level.
The following are working towards a LAMDA examination this term:
H. Harcus, K. Benn, G. Brockway, H, Brockway, A. Bazhenhova, P. Jones, S. Kumar, H. Green, B. Drew, W. Green, H. Clarke-Lowe, S. Donaghue and D. Kaushal.
Each pupil has chosen one prose excerpt and a poem which they will learn and present to the examiner, along with an unseen piece read from sight. They will then be required to discuss the rationale behind their choices with the examiner, who will also test their understanding of the effects of literary techniques employed by their chosen authors.
They are aiming to take the final examination during the Lent Term.
