It was a pleasure to see so many new faces at the most recent meeting of the Junior Literary Society. Many members of B-Block turned out in force to contest some of our ‘old-hands’ for the title of ‘JLS Quiz Champions.’ By far the most popular (and highest scoring) round was that entitled ‘Name That Film!’ – pupils were given a still image taken from a film and asked to name the title and author of the novel that inspired it. Other rounds included Classical and Children’s Literature. It was hugely encouraging to see that, despite their busy lifestyle and the lures of internet and other media, Reptonians still find the time to read diversely.
Although the title was taken by an O-Block team, consisting of E. Sharples, L. Duggleby, C. Graham, B. Lewis and E. Welsh, they were given a run for their money by a B-Block team which came a close second. We very much look forward to seeing them at future JLS meetings. Many thanks must go to our Sixth Form Secretary S. Davies (U6M), as well as A. Etherington (U6M), whose assistance and enthusiasm was much appreciated by the JLS.
Our next meeting will be the annual Halloween ‘Ghost Walk,’ where Reptonians will have the chance to hear ghostly stories from Repton’s archives, as well as listen to poetry from the likes of Walter De La Mare and contribute their own ghostly tales.
