Junior inter-House and Senior Hockey league winners!

Junior inter-House and Senior Hockey league winners!

The Mitre ends the term, with some great success in the inter- hockey competitions and it is wonderful to come away with two important inter-house titles. Ellie Green (Captain of Hockey) has also been awarded the title of 1st XI player of the season which is a wonderful achievement for her and marks a season in which she has been part of both the indoor and outdoor U18 teams, who have won the Midlands round of the competition to go through to the National finals next term.

The Senior Hockey league competition has for the second year running has been won by the Mitre, and this competition has allowed a large number of girls to get involved in playing 6 matches against the other girls Houses. Following on from winning the title unbeaten last year it is wonderful to have won all but 1 match this year and all of the hockey league has been played in great spirit. There have been some excellent performances from all members of the team, and especially from Sophie Willis and Sophie Griffiths who have helped win some well fought goals. Tamsin Bowers and Harriet Cornish have also put in some excellent performances, as has Kit Rees. The strength of this team has been in everyone's willingness to get involved and it has been wonderful to always have plenty of reserve players ready to play.

The Junior House hockey was played yesterday in great spirits in the final against the Field and the Mitre won by a single goal, in a tightly fought 1-0 victory. The opposition played some very good attacking hockey and especially in the 2nd half of the match in which they gained a series of 7 short corners. The Mitre played really well defensively and kept the ball from the goal. Clare Gething Lewis had her work cut out in goal, but worked hard with the defence to keep Field from scoring. Also superb was the play in the centre from Charlotte Graham who kept picking up the ball and chasing down to our goal. Mr Naylor umpiring - gave Charolotte man of the match, for her consistent and attacking play. Also playing superbly were Georgie Whitehouse and Lili Kettlewell who both worked hard to win back the ball for Mitre. The score line reflects just how closely fought the game was - especially in the second half and is a wonderful result for the team.

What a great season of hockey it has been for Mitre - with lots of hockey played in great spirit. A special thank you to to the Mitre parents who have been so supportive of the teams this term and to all the girls for playing with such determination and enthusiasm.
