Junior Hockey: Genuine pride in performance

In bitterly cold wind and rain, against much vaunted opposition, the Junior Hockey team might have been forgiven for a half-hearted performance on Tuesday 9th November. These girls are made of sterner stuff however. The Abbey girls played with a collective spirit and passion that will go down as one of the highlights of this term.

Disaster seemed to be looming as Garden House quickly moved to a 4-0 lead by half time. Frannie Beharrell (A Block) was limping and The Abbey were struggling to take the ball out of their own half. The girls remained cheerful however and in the second half they hung on in determined fashion, supporting each other in the tackle and running themselves to exhaustion. They conceded only one more goal and managed to pressure The Garden in their own half more regularly. The match ended at 5-0.
Mrs Wilbraham was tremendously proud of the girls and treated them to chocolates back in the warmth of the House!

Despite the loss , The Abbey have strength in depth which means we comfortably top the Junior League (for players not in The A teams). We currently have 3 Junior A team members, Frannie Beharrell, Jess. Lawrence (A Block) and Jess Czink (B Block).

The team was: Cara Evans, Sevi Matthews, Jess Lawrence, Frannie Beharrell, Phoebe Jones, Annie Findlay (A Block), Freya Harcus, Meggie Smith, Anna Trafford, Jess Czink, Ellie-May Evans, Rebecca Busby and Izzy Walster (B Block).
