In a tense and close semi-final, the U15A football team triumphed yesterday in the ISFA Cup against Shrewsbury.
After an early start and a long coach journey the boys worked hard and played well against a notably tough opposition who had beaten us earlier in the term.
Repton went ahead after 30 minutes when Patrick Tuffy burst down the left and cut inside to score with a fine strike. However, Shrewsbury equalised only 90 seconds later when a through ball eluded our defence and the opposition rolled the ball into an empty net. Half time score, 1-1.
Both sides created chances in the second half but none found their target. At the end of the second half and with the score still 1-1 the match went into extra-time. Repton had the better of extra-time and Shrewsbury were indebted to their goalkeeper for some fine saves - but it was our boys who soon won through when a nail-biting penalty shoot-out was necessary to decide the winners. Final score, 4-3 to Repton! Click here to read the full match report.
This is the first time that a Repton side has made it through to an ISFA final, missing out in previous years in the regional stages. This year’s team have trained hard and played well to earn their place in the finals, beating teams from Eton, King’s School Chester and Wolverhampton GS.
The 1st XI play in their ISFA semi-final next Wednesday (3rd February) away at Manchester GS.
The final, by happy coincidence, is to be held locally to us at Burton Albion’s Pirelli Stadium at 6pm on Thursday 4th March.
We look forward to providing a strong turnout of supporters to cheer the boys on as they battle to become 2010 U15 ISFA National Champions.
