Last night (Wednesday 21st April) the School hosted the successful launch of art exhibition ‘Wide Open’ by local artist Heather Duncan.

A well attended ‘in conversation’ between Heather and Lucy Salt , Keeper of Art at Derby Museum and Art Gallery, started the evening in New Court Gallery, giving the 70 strong audience insight into the inspiration behind various pieces of work.

This was followed by the opportunity to browse the wide range of art on display with refreshments and canapés prepared and served by Sixth Form students, under the guidance of Clare Tetley from culinary course providers, Seasoned.  Many visitors also had the opportunity to chat to the artist herself before heading down to the Gallery No 1 High Street to view the second installation of Heather's work.

The evening was rounded off with live music from past and present members of the Birmingham Conservatoire Jazz Trio which added an extra special touch to the evening.

The exhibition runs from 22nd April to 26th June 2010 at the New Court Gallery and No1 Gallery, Repton School, Derbyshire, DE65 6FL. Open Mon-Wed 2-4pm Fri 12-3pm and weekends by appointment 07808 930141 artist 07906 341245.

Jeremy Bournon, Director of Art, comments, “For those who are not familiar with Heather’s work, Wide Open offers a superb introduction to its variety and depth, and those people who already admire Heather’s work will be able to savour the newly manifested depths of her talent.”
