Reptonians, old, new and current, are very good at being recognised and this week an A Block once again gained recognition for outstanding talent.
Imogen Wollaston (4F) entered The Wicked Young Writers Competition during the summer with her short story entitled “Circles”. The work is a vivid insight into the mind of a young person, documenting their feelings of confusion and fear being trapped in the “Centre”. The writing is brave, emotional and is of a quality that belies Imogen’s young age.
Over 4,000 young people entered the competition, which had five categories ranging from 5-7years old to 17-25 years old and is the first of its kind to award such a wide age-range of people from across the UK. The competition also boasts The Duchess of Cornwall as their patron and has a loyal affiliation with the West End production Wicked.
Imogen beat off stiff opposition and was selected as one of 20 finalists in her category (11-13 years) to attend an awards ceremony this week, winning 2nd Prize. Presenting her award was Michael Morpurgo, renowned for his work in Children’s literature with over 75 publications to his name, and the founder of the Awards.
This is an amazing achievement for someone so young, and Imogen has now joined that elite group of Reptonian writers to see their name in print before the age of 18!
For those wishing to read Imogen’s story, “Circle” please click here and the organisers of the competition have published the 100 winning entries in a book called “Wicked Young Writers’ Anthology”.
For any other budding young Reptonian writers, entries are now being accepted for the 2011 Awards. To submit your entry please visit www.wickedyoungwriters.com
