Mitre had a wonderful day at this year’s Sale of Work event and returned to the House exhausted but energised after a day of making, decorating, creating and bouncing! It was wonderful to see the initiative of the L6th and the hard work of the entire rest of the House, which together led to some very successful events.

We had a huge range of stalls, many of which demonstrated what the girls had themselves made. Inside “Daisy by Designs” was a huge success. Sisters Daisy Collins (5M) and Tessa Collins (4M) demonstrated wonderful entrepreneurship as they sold cards and canvasses they had created. These sold wonderfully and the colourful stall attracted all visitors to Pears School who walked past as they made their way into the Hall. Watch this space for further developments with this cottage industry!
As always our apple crumble stall was a big hit and it was wonderful to see so many repeat customers from our last few years in the House. One of the highlights of the year is the annual apple pick from the Mitre orchard, followed by the peeling and cooking to “The Ivy” recipe. Alongside this was our very popular hot chocolate – complete with cream, marshmallows and flakes!

Scarlett Flight (L6M) used her initiative to have some pink and blue “Repton” wristbands created. These sold like hotcakes and the order of 250 quickly sold out. On the same stall Imogen Clarke (L6M) took control of the home-made friendship bracelets. She inspired a large number of girls in the House and thanks to the L6th and a great number of the B and A Block we had 50 of these homemade bracelets to sell.
More homemade activity was seen on the salt dough stall, where visitors were invited to make their own decorations for the Christmas tree. These were very popular with the younger visitors and the girls did a great job of demonstrating how to do these. In addition we had a cake decorating stall. This was a great activity and again attracted the younger visiting crowd.

For many the highlight of the afternoon was the zorbing and for the younger visitors the bouncy castle. We would like to say a huge thank you to Mr and Mrs Lees who very kindly donated the bouncy castle for the afternoon. It was a huge hit with Joshua and many other children and the record was held for a 45 minute bounce from one of the brothers of our L6th (a bargain for 50p!). Zorbing also proved very popular and certainly provided an attraction for lots of people to watch. I am not sure the Zorbs were designed to roll all the way down the paddock hill however! This was a fantastic idea from members of the L6th and I am sure will feature in future events.

We are very much looking forward to welcoming a large number of parents to the House next weekend for our annual Sale of Work dinner. If you would still like to come but have not yet bought your ticket please do get hold of Mrs Parish who I am sure will be able to accommodate some more parents. We would love to see as many of you as possible. We have some very exciting auction prizes, and are very grateful to the many parents who have already sent in raffle prizes and auction promises.
