A successful term for the Hockey Club culminated with the Girls’ U18 team being crowned Midlands’ Champions for the tenth consecutive year and gaining a place in the Nationals Finals in March. They also won the Midlands’ Indoor championship and will defend their national title in Mid-January.
Not to be outdone the Boys’ U16 team took the Midlands’ Indoor title and also go through to the national finals.
In addition the girls won the newly formed Midlands’ Girls League, where the top seven schools (Oakham, Oundle, Uppingham, Trent, Rugby, Bromsgrove and Repton) play each other in nine leagues: 1sts, 2nds, 3rds, 16A&B, 15A&B, 14A&B and then the overall scores are counted. The outcome wasn’t decided until the very final match of the season where our U14A girls had to play Trent. Having lost to them earlier in the season the team decided to save their best until last and won 2 – 0 securing the overall Midlands’ Girls League title.
In November Meg Byas(F) and Maddie Sharpe(G) attended the prestigious American National Hockey festival in Arizona, which serves as a recruiting event for American University hockey coaches.
Finally after recent assessments we have five players in the England training squads - Erica Sanders(G) U16 Girls, Aaron Hibell(O) U16 Boys, Meg Byas(F) and Maddie Sharp(G) U18 Girls and Arjan Drayton-Chana(S) U18 Boys.
