The Mitre has been taking a leading role in the Haiti appeal, launching “Haiti Day” in chapel this morning with a presentation led by Sixth Formers - Emily Burtwistle, Claudia Johnson Sabine, Kiki Betts Dean and Lucy Watson. The girls spoke with great authority and sensitivity about the situation in Haiti, both before and after the recent devastation created by the earthquake and its after –shocks. They launched the school’s upcoming appeal for this Saturday – which will include a “loose change” collection around the pitches and at the House Harmony event on Saturday night.

As part of the Mitre’s own fund-raising a whole host of girls have been busy baking cakes to be sold at the harmony event and on Saturday afternoon in the Sports Hall. This has been widely supported by girls from across the House and it is testimony to the lovely House spirit that Sixth Form, A Block and B Block have all joined in with the baking activities to produce over 200 cakes.
With the desperate need for aid in Haiti growing daily, we hope that the effort and energy of the girls will result in us being able to send a generous donation to the aid efforts for Haiti.
