The final House matches of term were played yesterday on a bright and sunny afternoon. Mitre had gone through to the finals having beaten Abbey in the semi-final play off. It was wonderful for the Mitre team to have made it into the final and the girls acquitted themselves superbly! Fresh from our Easter egg hunt in the garden, a large number of Mitre girls came down to support the match from the side lines.
Very ably captained by Eleanor Tyler the team went out excited about the game and prepared to make Field work hard for the title. Always the "under-dogs" it was a delight to see such skilful and determined play from the Mitre team. The team had some good strength and depth and a number of girls played some outstanding netball on the afternoon. Emily Renshaw at GD played some superb netball - working hard to block the Field GA attack out of the circle. Sophie Moorcroft also played brilliantly in defence making sure she took as many interceptions as possible, and taking a number of re-bounds.
There was also some excellent centre court play. Abigail Krone and Laura Smith both demonstrated real speed and agility in the centre third and helped fluid movement of the ball down the Court. GS Arabella Butters then showed some excellent movement in the circle, and shot some impressive goals from near the edge of the D. There was also some outstanding play throughout the course of the match from Harriet Cornish who showed extremely good versatility as a player.
The final score went in Field's favour, and we congratulate them whole heartedly on their win. Both teams had a great afternoon of netball and quality of this House match final showed just how high the standard of netball is at Repton.
The afternoon ended with a presentation of flowers to Nicky Oborn as a thank you for leading the girls through a superb season. She has done much to inspire girls and coaches alike and we were delighted to be able to thank her for all her hard work.
