Glorious Unisons and Harmonies

This weekend saw the annual House Unison and Harmony competitions. These are always fiercely contested and this year was no exception. Indeed, many believe that this year was the highest standard, across the school. The winners of the Unison, Latham, singing Every Breath you Take sang with a remarkable beauty of tone, and with the precision of a chamber choir. They held the audience spell-bound. This was no walk over, with New House and Garden hot on their heels, both being Highly Commended. This year, more than any other in recent memory, it was particularly satisfying to see the gap between the winner and the other Houses being so small. Every single House sang well, and gave strong performances. The atmosphere was electric as they waited for the adjudicator to speak.

The adjudicator, Matthew Brook, himself a most distinguished international performer, commented "I was so surprised and delighted by the universally high standard of their singing. The pupils behaved impeccably too, and all really enjoyed themselves. I cannot remember hearing a school sing better, it was a real treat to be involved."

The following night saw the Harmony competition, which again was a highly polished affair. No less than seven of the ten Houses had written their own arrangements. Field House was triumphant, with Amelia Anderson’s arrangement of Come Fly with Me. Close behind, New House and Mitre can be very proud of their performances, as indeed can all the boys and girls.

This was Repton at its best: competitive, impressive, supportive and fun.
