During half term we went to Auschwitz as part of the Lessons from Auschwitz Project which is a branch of the Holocaust Education Trust.
Before we made the trip we went to an orientation seminar in which a holocaust survivor spoke called Kitty Moxon-Hart. We were both very moved by Kitty’s story and it served as a good introduction for when we made the actual visit.
Although the day itself was very tiring (getting up at 3 in the morning was not easy!) we feel that we have taken many things away from the trip and are glad we went. It was all very well organised and we definitely think it is something most people should try to do in their lifetime because the atmosphere of the place itself cannot be shown in pictures or described through any means.
As part of the project we have to pass on the lessons we have learnt and so in the summer term we are hoping to do an evening talk for the school and local community as well as arranging a Holocaust survivor, like Kitty, to come and share their own account with everyone.
