Match Report:
This was a very strong performance by the girls against an opposition that were considered to be one of the strongest in the competition.
It didn’t take long for Repton to open up their ISFA scoring account with Shona McCallin taking charge with an amazing run, carving through the Oakham defence to find herself with only their keeper to beat, which she did comfortably. Repton continued to press causing the Oakham defence constant problems, and on the occasion when the ball bypassed our midfield, Lowri McIntosh and Ellie Clark at the back ensured that it was dealt with promptly and calmly. As the first half carried on, Jo Leigh and Lucy Setterington also found themselves on the score sheet, with Alton, Mumby and Smale unlucky not to be included on the list of goal scorers.
At half time, Repton were up by five goals to nil, which then saw a change in positioning to compensate for the wind and slope. Laura Smith was introduced upfront, making plenty of excellent attacking runs and further stretching the Oakham defence, only to be continually thwarted by the goalkeeper or the offside rule. Repton continued to feed off balls from Wiz Mumby, and Catherine McGrath finding Sophie Donoghue in the middle regularly, who managed to add her name on the goal scoring sheet on two occasions. Repton now seven nil up and approaching the final few minutes saw another name added to the list, Lowri McIntosh. Lowri read the game well and capitalised on a poor Oakham clearance by blasting the ball into the top right hand corner.
A fine performance from the girls who have every chance of matching last year’s effort. Full time: Repton 8 Oakham 0
