Match Report:
After a well fought match against Bromsgrove last week, the girls were looking forward to the match. It is getting to that stage in the term where the girls are tierd and there have been a few niggling issues in training but I was hopeful that these had been aired since the last training session. The game started off with Repton giving too much away and not doing the basics well enough. It is disappointing to have to keep saying the same things over and over again to the girls but this is something that is letting them down at times. Eventually, Repton took the lead with Ellie scoring after a good cross from Bethan. There were pieces of good play when we were playing it round the back and spreading the ball wide. Solihull got a goal close to half time, which was a good deflection that was unmarked by the Repton defence.
At half time we discussed about using the self pass rule to our advantage and many attempted this throughout the half. The girls also tried to get the basics right and again there was evidence of this. Solihull scored again, due to the Repton girls not doing their own job well enough and others having to pick up the pieces. This is something that the girls have put right throughout the season but they panic under pressure. Jess got a good goal off the post to level the match and then on a penalty corner, Rosie slipped the ball for Pip to score. Repton raised their game slightly in the last 15 minutes, and again scored from a penalty corner, Charlie slipping the ball to Pip. As ever, we had countless changes due to some injuries and absences. Caitlin stepped in as a centre back and had her best game of the season. She used what we have been trying to achieve in practices and she deserves to be awarded man of the match. LJB
