Match Report:
The score-line does not reflect how hard fought this victory was. Although 2 – 0 up at half-time, I felt that Sedbergh had had more possession and territory and were making the Repton girls look flustered and lazy. On far too many occasions Repton gave possession away through a lack of composure on the ball and care in the pass (The two noticeable exceptions were Daisy Collins and Amy Davies on the left). Equally, we were slow to close our opponents down, allowing them too much time to control the ball and pick a pass. However, the second half was a different story! Georgie Whitehouse’s work rate was infectious and Sedbergh were barely able to get out of their half. All over the pitch the Repton girls were using their left to right drags to create space and go past players and then, most importantly, were giving a considerate, measured pass to a teammate. In particular, Cara Evans had her best game of the season and Jess Variava did a tremendous job nullifying their mid-field threat. Most pleasing of all, though, was the team’s improved response to turnovers in possession, taking the self-pass quickly and regaining shape in defence. Overall a first rate half of hockey - just in time for the Derbyshire finals on Thursday. (goalscorers: Lawrence, Roberts, Evans, Kettlewell & Perkins)
