Match Report:

Earlier in the term we played Hymers at home and won by the odd goal. Yesterday the girls produced a very pleasing performance and won comfortably. It was more pleasing that, despite very little input from me, they remained organised both with and without the ball and demonstrated a level of calmness and skill that was so sadly lacking at Bromsgrove. Hymers tried to play most of their hockey down the middle of the pitch but the rapidly improving Jess Lawrence and the newcomer Ellie Rylands coped brilliantly, with low tackles and great distribution. The most important phase of the game (not coincidently) coincided with Cara Evans getting wider and higher up the pitch and Jess Variava, therefore, having more time to get the ball to her. These two left sided players were unstoppable for a ten minute spell that saw us score three goals. The second half was quite one-sided with Hymers finding it difficult to get the ball through the Repton press and, in particular, Charlie Perkins’ hard work and flat stick. It would be pedantic to find fault with this performance as every one of the girls played so well. However, our tackling is still in need of a considerable amount of work, we pass the ball poorly from left to right, our hitting is still too inconsistent and it is now time that we learn to transfer the ball from one side of the pitch to the other find more space. Other than that – BRILLIANT!
