Match Report:
Despite not qualifying for the next stages of the competition the girls played very well in this tournament. In every match that they play they improve technically, learn more about the game and, of course, work hard. The first game of the day saw us lose in a keenly fought contest to Uppingham 1 – 0. This meant that we had to get a least a draw in our next fixture against Bromsgrove to stay in contention. This was probably the highest quality game of the whole day and although there were no goals both teams played some outstanding hockey. Our final two games were against Dame Alice Harper School and Solihull and we clearly had to win them both. The former were beaten 2 – 0 which meant that to pip Bromsgrove to second place we had to win our final game by five goals. Sadly, despite on onslaught on the Solihull goal, we only managed to win 5 – 1, missing a great many chances during the course of the match. The girls were, naturally, very disappointed but this should act as motivation for the rest of the term and beyond as they have been very impressive at times and yet, as yesterday showed, they still have much to learn in terms of tactics and in the execution of skills when under pressure.
