Girls play a full part in School sports

It’s great to report that the girls are playing a big part in the School sports teams this term. This was evident last Saturday afternoon when most of the girls were taking part in various fixtures, leaving very few girls left in the House.

In some of the other reports on this page you will see contributions from the girls reporting on their recent activities –including Becky Siebert and Wiz Mumby whose Hockey Club teams have reached important stages of English and German National Indoor Championships.

There were 26 girls involved in Netball teams on Saturday, including 3 girls in the 1st team.

The Girl’s Football Team are currently National Champions. On Saturday, Lucy Setterington (O Block) captained a team that included 8 Abbey girls from a squad of 14. They drew against Malvern and showed great promise. Tennis star, Hetty Alton joined in with a skilful and energetic performance. Head of House Abby Smale also played in the second half, after completing a 1st team netball match and getting changed on the sidelines.

Sarah Cotterill captained the Cross Country Team to victory in an away match at Worksop. Four out of the team of six girls were from The Abbey. As well as Sarah, Sophie Embley, Charly Wright and Hannah Slater put in great performances.

In the House Badminton the girls were runners up again; this time to Garden. House prizes are sure to come soon!
