Girls' 2nd XI v Uppingham

Venue: Uppingham

Team: Church, Rauf, Lamb, Jacques, Watson, Lawrence, Raynor, Barker (Captain), Smale, Brook, Cope, Parkinson, Matthews, Davies, Burn

Result: Drew 1-1

Match Report: As expected, this was a close encounter and there was very little difference between the two teams' ability or style of play. Close marking from both sides meant that neither team was able to create the space needed to afford players time on the ball. The midfield battle was key to success in the match - Hannah Barker played superbly well at Centre Midfield and was well supported by the rotating midfielders Smale, Cope, Brook and Burn. The game was played with real intensity. The Repton players abosorbed their opponents attacks and did well to compose themselves so that they built up effective phases of play.

Hannah Parkinson produced her best performance of the term, playing at Right Forward, and it was through her that Repton launched their more effective attacks in the match. Appropriately, it was Parkinson who scored Repton's goal - before half-time - to give Repton a well deserved, but by no means secure, lead.

After the half-time break, the game was played with equal intensity. A significant injury to Mateena Rauf, 5 minutes into the second half, led to a significant pause in the match. Soon afterwards, Uppingham managed to build up pressure and scored a deserved equaliser. From ths point on, both teams continued to play attacking hockey, looking for a winner. In the end, each team seemed to cancel one another out and a draw seemed a fair reflection of both team's performances.

Many thanks to the Uppingham team for such a good match and to their staff and CEG who helped to look after Mateena Rauf.

Scorer - Hannah Parkinson
