Match Report:
After two encouraging but win-less outings this was a splendid performance against another National League team. The recent matches looked to have sharpened the girls up as they played the ball around with purpose with everyone looking comfortable in possession.
Jo Leigh and Rhiannon Rogers pressured the Sheffield back line well and created a couple of early chances before Shona McCallin openened the scoring from a short corner. Meg Byas looked comfortable in her new role on the right hand side and it was a good move down the right flank that created the second goal. Rebecka Siebert finished instictively high in to the net after a pull-back from the baseline.
Hannah Dunford was rarely troubled in goal largely thanks to the ever-improving partership of Abi Krone and Sophie Hawkins who communicated and organised those in front of them well. Lowri McIntosh also played an important part in Saturday's match and looked commanding despite playing out of position.
Sheffield scored a late consolation goal but this was not before Wiz Mumby had capped off an excellent performance with a goal and Laura Smith scored the goal of the game. After some good work from Shona McCallin, Rhiannon Rogers slid the ball across the face of the goal in to the path of Laura who bravely finished off something that had been a recent focus in training.
Beeston and Birmingham University are the next two National League opponents before the school matches start.
