Match Report:
This was a comfortable victory and comprehensive performance by a team who had clearly been sharpened by their recent tougher fixtures. Allowing some players to miss this game to play for their clubs gave some others more pitch time than they have had previously. Helen Raynor also played her first match in over a year and did well. Bex Brown and Rosie Johnson, on either wing, took their opportunities and turned in superb performances. Rosie looked alert and made excellent use of possession - sometimes going 1 v 1 and sometimes using support behind her - and Bex Brown was superb in her defensive work and was clinical in and around the goal. Her two goals were easy tap-ins due to the fact she had worked hard to get in to dangerous positions.
The scoreline was 6-0 at half time as Repton totally dominated. Shona McCallin and Abi Krone comfortably front marked the Hymers' forwards, who hung high for the duration of the game, and they controlled the distrubution easily as the same Hymers' players made no attempt to defend. Another key feature of the first half was Ellie Green who used her skills in and around the circle to good effect and won numerous short corners in addition to scoring two herself.
The second half was a little flat but there was still some good play. Wiz Mumby controlled the middle of the pitch well and scored two good goals and Lowri McIntosh had her best game of the season so far. Laura Smith scored an excellent short corner strike and put herself in contention for a spot at the top of the circle as we will be focusing on short corners in the coming fortnight.
I am awaiting confirmation from Birmingham University about Wednesday's game but I have a feeling that the game may not go ahead. I'll update the website as soon as I know.
