Girls' 1st XI v Cannock HC

Wednesday 24th February.  Away at Cannock Cricket and Hockey Club.  Depart  at 6.20pm for an 8pm start.  Return to school at 10.30pm.

Any concerns that I had about our preparations were put to rest after this excellent performance.  The recent weather has not been ideal for practice and matchplay but the girls played some superb hockey - once they were 2-0 behind. It took ten minutes to adapt to the pace of the game and to organise the defensive shape and structure but after this time the game was an even one with both teams playing some flowing hockey.   

Becky Siebert scored two short corner goals, Laura Smith 'made sure' of Rhiannon Rogers' goal-bound effort and Jo Leigh scored two high quality finishes.  Her second, and the team's last goal, was an outstanding deflected effort.   Abi Krone defended well, Lowri McIntosh continues to make giant strides game by game and Laura Smith's defensive work as a forward was a great example to others.

With two practice sessions to go and a restful weekend ahead the girls should feel confident of performing well next Monday and Tuesday back at Cannock.  I look forward to seeing you all there.
