Match Report:
This was another excellent performance from which the girls will have learned plenty. With the exception of one Beeston goal, a short corner strike, which Sophie Hawkins unluckily nicked past Annabelle Church, Beeston's goals were all rapid counter-attack moves. This is something not to be too worried about from a team perspective as there will be no school team that will be able to break with the speed that Beeston did. However, this team are more than capable of coping with such a threat and should set high standards in the coming weeks by keeping the disciplined team structure that they did in the second half. All around the pitch, though, the individual defending could still be better and Sophie Hawkins should be the example to follow.
Rebecka Siebert scored the first goal from a short corner strike before a few more chances, and short corners, were wasted. The attention to detail required on set plays was highlighted by Shona McCallin's finish of a perfect move in the second half. Jo Leigh played excellently in the second half and, as a coach, it's always good to know you've got players who can do something special - Jo's dribble and reverse stick shot in to the top corner was just that. Shona McCallin scored the final goal with a cool finish after a good lay-off from Rhiannon Rogers.
Rosie Johnson and Bex Brown did well up front, working hard to close players down and getting themselves in to more dangerous attacking positions. Laura Smith improves game by game and also turned in another pleasing performance. There will be a re-shuffle for Saturday's game against Hymers' but I have no doubt, given recent evidence, that whatever squad players we use we will be more than competitive.
