Report: Despite the success outdoors Repton had never won the Midland Indoor title before today.  Bromsgrove, with a better knowledge of the indoor game, were clearly going to be the main rivals and the first and last games of the day against them were the highest quality matches of the tournament.  Repton started sluggishly in the opening game and didn't get in to a rhythym until they were 2-0 behind with Annabelle Church making an important save.   Repton second-half performance was deserving of a point and Rebecka Siebert's deflection off Abi Krone's pass with seconds remaining earned just that.

The other group games were won comfortably with Abi Krone and Ellie Green playing superbly and thanks to a superior goal difference a first placed group finish meant a semi-final match with Oakham.  Oakham played well in their group and had a couple of early chances in the semi-final which, had they converted, could have changed the outcome.  Once Ellie Green scored the opener, however, the quality of play improved dramatically and Oakham needed their goalkeeper, Caitlin Jeffries, to be in superb form - and she was, making several spectacular saves including a penalty and numerous corners.

Repton played their best hockey of the day in the final.  Abi Krone and Shona McCallin dictated the pace of the game and the front three - Green, Leigh and Siebert - were disciplined in their defence and clinical in the circle.  Rebecka Siebert was the star performer at the tournament scoring numerous times,  several of which were from set pieces.  Bromsgrove came back strongly in the second half and scored to narrow the deficit but Shona McCallin restored the two-goal lead almost immediately after following up a short corner.  Bromsgrove scored their second with a fine deflection with fifteen seconds remaining but thankfully there was too little time for another attack.

This was an excellent, and very pleasing, victory to cap off a brilliant term for the girls.   Everybody seems ready for a break though and I thank the girls and parents for their efforts and support and I wish them all a very happy Christmas.

The National Finals are to be held at Ponds Forge in Sheffield on Saturday 16th and Sunday 17th January.
