After the stunning victory in the annual Harmony competition on Saturday night, few thought that the weekend could get any better for Latham...that was until the House team stormed to victory in Sunday's General Knowledge competition! The team, ably captained by future Oxford undergraduate Gautham Shiralagi (U6), also featured Chris Swann (U6 foundation scholar), Edwin Wilton-Morgan (L6 foundation scholar), Edward Coleman (O Block academic scholar), Barnaby Dykstra (A Block academic exhibitioner) and Jacques Taylor (B Block Hesse scholar). After a slow start, in which Mitre took the early lead, the boys began to show the diversity of their knowledge and, round by round, they narrowed the gap on the leaders. A crucial play of the 'joker' on the arts & culture round, securing 18 points, ensured a jump into second place and, with 3 rounds to play, Mitre and Latham were tied on 60 points. The momentum, however, was unstoppable and although Mitre ended on 80 points overall, this was 5 short of Latham's total of 85, securing the trophy and cementing our place at the heart of Repton's intellectual life.
