Gaudy 2010

OLD REPTONIAN SOCIETY GAUDY , June 12th 2010
A fine summer’s day, after a worrying week of wet weather, helped almost 200 visitors to enjoy themselves immensely at another Gaudy. This year it was any former pupil who was at Repton pre 1950 or between 1962 and 1972. This, of course, included the first 2 girls ever to attend the school, Carole Blackshaw and Sally Foulds. People came from distant points of the globe ( New Zealand, Kenya, Finland, USA) and were not disappointed. A notable visitor was Nelson Muturi who had not been to Repton for some years and came all the way from Nairobi for the occasion.

Former staff attending included Bill Blackshaw, Jill Pellow, John Billington, Mike Charlesworth, John Fishley and Dick Morgan. Former governors who joined us were Sir Sydney Giffard, Edward Wilkinson, Bill Hutchinson, John Hetherington and Alan Bemrose.
Pre-lunch drinks were held in The Garth where we were royally entertained for 30 minutes by the Repton School Jazz Band. A sumptuous lunch awaited in Pears School and an entertaining speech from the Headmaster, Robert Holroyd, who spoke of the school’s recent sporting successes in hockey ( National Champions, boys and girls ), football ( Independent Schools Cup Finalists at 2 age levels ) and his plans for the future. He emphasised the importance of support from the Old Reptonian community.

This was then followed by tours of the school led by current pupils who had given up their afternoon to volunteer their help. All this finished at the former House with a chance to look at the old photograph albums and reminisce further. Judging by the many complimentary comments which we have had, a very pleasant day was had by all.
