Garden girls have raised enough money from the Tuck Shop in the Christmas term to sponsor a little girl . We have been waiting this long to find a girl in South America in an area relevant for the Geography syllabus so that our resident tutor Miss Mackenzie could use the area for a case study. Jamilet is two years old and lives in a house made of wood and corrugated iron. Because of Plan International through whom we are sponsoring her, she is able to receive basic medical care such as vaccinations and her family has running water and a latrine. She has an older brother and sister. The situation is improving in her favella but there is still not enough safe water, high unemployment, child abuse and a lack of recreational space. We look forward to corresponding with her family and watching her grow as Garden girls move through the house and take on the responsiblity of keeping in touch with her and letting her know we care.
