The wonderful sunshine this afternoon was perfect for some rounders matches, with The Mitre A and B Block playing Foremarkes’ 1st and 2nd teams.
Many of the Mitre girls have not played Rounders for a couple of years so it was lovely to see them excitedly getting onto the mini-bus ready for the journey over. Steve (husband of our matron Margaret) kindly drove the girls over and all were wearing their pink and blue house tops.
The A team had a good match against the Foremarke 1st team, and having blown out some of the cobwebs started to bat well and gain some excellent rounders. They also fielded well and managed to snatch a win in the final innings. Lili Kettlewell 4M demonstrated a strong ability to bat well, and scored some excellent rounders. There was also some accomplished play from Amy Davies 4M who played at back-stop. The final score of the match was a very close win for Mitre with 20-23 rounders.
The B team also had an brilliant match. They also took some time to get into the batting and fielding but by the end of the match were playing well. Especially impressive was the performance of Zoe Buckland 3M who managed to score 4 ½ rounders when she was the last batter left in during the 2nd innings! This was an excellent individual effort and Zoe demonstrated some real skill and prowess. She was also cheered on by some very energetic team mates, especially Rachel Higgins 4M who gave a running commentary throughout the 2nd innings of the match!
Our sincere thanks to Steve for driving us over and also to Mrs Mansfield for arranging the afternoon. We have already got this event in the diary for next year and look forward to another enjoyable afternoon playing rounders as a House!
The Teams representing the House on this occasion were:
