The academic year 2010-11 has ended with some superb exam results from both last year’s O Block and the U6th. The summer also saw both the A Block and L6th facing public examinations, leaving the B Block as the only year group in the House who were not sitting external examinations.
The performances at A level were outstanding with many girls achieving higher grades than they needed to secure their university offers and outperforming their predicted grades. These performances included Kiki Betts Dean gaining four A* grades in order to take up her place reading History at Cambridge. Sisters Kit Rees and Ellie Rees each gained three A* grades and an A grade, allowing Kit to take her place reading Russian at Oxford and Ellie to achieve her place to read Law at LSE. Also impressive were the three A* grades and one A grade achieved by Yevgeniya Korotokova who leaves us to study Economics at Bath. A large number of other girls also achieved straight A and A* grades and these included; Lucy Watson who has secured her place to read Classics at Durham, Eva Lo who gained five A level grades and will be studying Economics at LSE, Sophie Davies who secured her place reading Classics at Bristol and Arabella Butters who takes her place to study Politics at City University. Many others also achieved the “gold standard” of A* grades in their specialist areas including Hannah Fullelove (A* in English) Kate Dyer ( A*in Art), and Sophie McMullan (A* in RS). We are so proud of all our Mitre girls, each one of whom has been rewarded for her own endeavours and has achieved her potential. It is wonderful to be able to report that all this year’s cohort will be going on to study their chosen courses in the coming weeks. The girls can be proud of what they have achieved in their time with us, not just academically but in so many areas of school life. We are very proud indeed of the achievements of each individual within this particular year group and we wish them the very best for the future.
The O Block have also discovered what the reward for hard work and consistency is, with three of the ten girls in the year group in the House gaining straight A* grades. Many congratulations to Imogen Clarke, Bethan Lewis and Charlotte Graham who have all gained the very highest grade in all of their summer examinations and who have achieved 32 A* grades between them! Rosie Cordingley, Elizabeth Duggleby and Scarlett Flight also managed to gain straight A and A* grades, which is a reflection of their hard work and consistency. Most important however is that, once again, every member of this year group has shown what can be achieved with hard work and the mark of their success as a year group is the way every one of them achieved their potential in all their individual subjects.
These results set the standard for the House and the priority now will be to maintain the hard work ethic that has been established in the House, and of which we are very proud.
