Considering the House’s reputation for impressive Harmony performances, The Orchard had a lot to live up to this year. Nevertheless, the Orchard rendition of “Feeling Good” exceeded expectations, imbued with a spark and confidence that would give Nina Simone a run for her money. Led by Greg Fearn and Tristram Fane-Saunders, and dressed in a rat-pack-esque shirt and tie combination, The Orchard may not have collected a prize at the end of the evening but certainly carried themselves with style. The Tenor solos were taken by Charlie Bracegirdle and Greg Fearn, while the song’s distinctive bassline was handled by Tristram Fane-Saunders, Will Markham, Zhucheng Fang and Luke Avery. The adjudicator pointed out a number of strengths in the Orchard’s performance, but a particularly warm mention was made of the House’s treble section (Daniel Vincent, Marcus Cork-Keeling, George Gould, Lucas McCallum-Suarez, and Ben Nevill) which he said was one of the best he had seen in a very long time. Considering the lack of rehearsal time (resulting from a late change of song choice) the performance was a real success, and bodes well for next year. The House would like to thank Mrs. Palmer and Mr. Sentance for their advice and encouragement during the rehearsal process.
