Repton School

Dunking, jousting, crumble and cake!

Dunking, jousting, crumble and cake!

This past weekend pupils, staff, villagers and ORs gathered for the main charity event of the Michaelmas term, the Sale of Work. Blessed with a sunny day, the event proved to be very popular and attracted visitors from across the region. A huge range of entertainments and goods were available, many of them the handiwork of Reptonians or villagers. Among the highlights included delicious apple crumbles (made with love by the Mitre girls with apples from their own orchard) and Krispy Kreme doughnuts, showcasing the entrepreneurial zeal of the Garden girls. Pupils also got to exact some revenge on members of staff who volunteered to take the plunge on the Priory’s ducking stool, or on one another on the New House gladiator jousting!

Overall, the event on the day raised in excess of £9,000 for charity, an excellent effort by all concerned. This, however, is only a fraction of the work done by Houses for the Sale of Work with each house hosting charity dinners throughout the Michaelmas term. While the proceeds from these are still being counted, it is likely that the total raised for good causes will be in excess of £30,000. Given the prevailing economic conditions, this is a real achievement, attributable to the commitment to our charitable ethos shown by the whole Repton community – staff, pupils, parents and villagers.

While the first Sale of Work, which took place almost 150 years ago, supported only one charity, in modern times it has grown to such and extent that we now support more than 20 local, national and international charities. Anyone who was involved in the Sale of Work who would like to nominate a charity to receive a donation should contact dtc@repton.org.uk.
