Deck the Halls with Boughs of Hollies!

Last night’s Carol Service marked the start of the final week of term. The service was beautiful and alongside the choir singing superbly, it was lovely to see Emily Gerard Pearse 4M doing such a marvellous job of her reading. The next Carol Service will be on Friday afternoon ahead of the House supper on Friday night and will mark the end of this busy and productive term!

The week looks to be action packed, with both the Junior and Senior Hockey competitions to be played, House supper to prepare and various other Christmas activities to excite the girls before they come home.

Tomorrow marks the judging for our inter-House study decorating competition. The B, A and O Block have all entered this year’s competition with gusto and there is a serious competition underway. So much so that we have had to draft in a judge from outside the House to come and make the final decision!

On Wednesday afternoon a group of Mitre girls will be going to the Dales nursing home in the village to sing some songs and carols and bring some festive cheer. This is a lovely opportunity for the girls to spend some time with some of the older residents in the village and there has been no shortage of volunteers to come and sing.

On Thursday we will be decorating our tree for the St Wystan’s Christmas tree festival. This is a bi-annual village event, held in the local Parish church. This year we have chosen “home-made” Christmas as our theme and the girls will this week be involved in making salt dough biscuits, popcorn garlands and Clementine pomanders to give our tree a home-made look!

All of the events of the week will be photographed and put up on our Christmas 2011 gallery for you to see.

We have had another wonderful term, and how exciting to have such a build up in these final days – the girls will most certainly be in great festive cheer when the get into the cars for the drive home on Friday night (we hope to be done for 9.30, 9.45 at the latest!).
