Dariescu Classes and Recital

On Wednesday 25th January we were delighted to welcome acclaimed young pianist Alexandra Dariescu to perform as part of the Subscription Series. Earlier in the day three of our pianists Katie Jankinson (B Block, Mitre), Charmaine Tam (B Block, Abbey) and Kaan Harwood (L6, New) were particularly fortunate, as she spent the afternoon with them offering some extremely helpful and insightful advice. We were delighted to see how positively the pupils reacted to her comments. Indeed, she made a striking difference to their playing.



After a well-deserved rest and a good practice session on our recently serviced Steinway D, Alexandra gave a phenomenal piano recital. The Beldam Hall was almost at full capacity and the audience was unanimous in saying that this was a truly special occasion. We heard music by Schumann, Scarlatti, Debussy and Chopin and Alexandra’s wide tonal range and beautiful sound delighted us throughout the evening. Her playing was deeply passionate and superbly controlled, full of stunning nuances and colours. Many members of the audience were pleased to buy Alexandra’s recently released CD and we are certain it will occupy a special place in their music collection. We truly hope we will be able to see her perform again in the near future. She received a standing ovation, something rarely seen even in this series!
