Classy Brass

Chetham's School of Music once again came to Repton for a performance as part of the Repton Concerts Society. This time the Brass Ensemble presented an outstanding concert playing with a sense of maturity beyond their years. This is a regular visit which looks set to continue with performances in previous years from strings, piano and woodwind. These young players always inspire our own Repton musicians.

They presented a varied programme with impressive intonation and wonderful all round balance; crucial in brass playing. Particularly impressive was the Trombone ensemble (including BBC Young Musician of the Year, Peter Moore) and Jazz inspired pieces by the Trumpet ensemble.

Repton's Head of Instrumental Studies, Mark Cadman who is himself an experienced trumpet player, commented: "What is important in brass playing is not to over blow or overwhelm an audience with sheer volume. The Chetham's brass players were sensitive to all dynamics and played with a real sense of musicianship and aural awareness. Superb."

Previous visits have also included workshops at Foremarke. We look forward to their next appearance at Repton.
