Celebrity Support for Cycle Challenge

While the boys of School House enjoy a hard-earned rest this week, their new Housemaster Tom Naylor will be hard at work, cycling from Lands End to John O’Groats in the name of charity.

Following on from the School’s Lent Charity campaign, which raised £17,265 for Passing It On, Mr Naylor and two old school friends, James MacDonald and Ol Vernon-Harcourt, are going to cycle the 1000 mile course to raise further funds for Passing It On.

Passing It On has a simple aim: to raise money to build schools and support education in some of the poorest areas of Africa. Set up six years ago with one project in Kenya by James, the charity has now raised over £270k. Tom and his friends are hoping to secure sufficient sponsorship to reach the £30,000 target that is needed to build a new community Junior School at the Dreamlands School in Ghana.

Tom, James and Ol have also got celebrity on their side as award winning comic Miranda Hart is also supporting them:

‘As someone who has done the John O’Groats to Lands End bicycle ride, I can assure you that it is a real challenge. Not only some hard core hills to mentally and physically get over, but cycling brings its whole range of problems, mainly in the chaffing department! For that alone, these guys need your support and how wonderful to get the chance to contribute to such a wonderful charity that will make such a difference to a local region in Africa. So dig deep, as they will certainly have to, to get up those hills.’ (Miranda Hart, Jan 2011)

If you would like to sponsor Tom and his friends, no matter how big or small the donation, please go to www.justgiving.com/three-amigos-uktour to donate, or text ‘PASS11 £1’ to 70070 to donate £1 to Passing It On via your mobile phone.
