It is with great pride that we can claim to be holders of what some (including many parents), would agree is possibly the greatest distinction that a House may have. At Speech Day during The Summer, we were awarded The Cately Shield, as the highest achieving House, academically!
Regular readers of Abbey newsletters and website may be forgiven for believing that we are obsessed only by socialising, sport and music.
Indeed over the last 12 months we have been able to celebrate the girls’ success in most of the major sporting and musical events. We have also seen the girls throw themselves into organising and participating in extra curricular events such as Sale of Work, The Fashion Show, drama and of course the ‘Socials’ held every Term.
Behind the scenes, however, the girls have been sure to learn those most valuable lessons of prioritising and time-management. For without these, the well rounded education that Repton offers cannot be enjoyed fully, because there are always assignments to be completed.
Against the excellent overall school records in academic results, the winning of The Cately Shield must really be seen as a major achievement, based on talent and personal endeavour over the whole year. Indeed, had we been aware of the award prior to ‘going to press’ in The Summer, we would most certainly have made a meal of the event earlier!
According to results so far in the 2009/10 academic year, the girls are continuing to lead the way at Repton School. If The Abbey girls continue their course work with such determination, they may be able to mark a spectacular double-celebration this summer.
Meanwhile we must be sure to appreciate the importance of the girls making the most of the many opportunities available to them in a busy school schedule; while applauding them for being able to do all of this, while maintaining such a high level of academic performance.
