Garden led chapel this morning with the theme of New Years' Resolutions. All the year groups participated as can be seen from the transcript below. The Garden's New Years' resolution was to change the life of one other person. We shall be sponsoring a littel girl, hopefully in South America so the linguists can communicate in Spanish. The money has been raised from the Surgery Tuck Shop which is as popular as ever. More news on this to come...
However, it was Caitlin in B Block singing Heather Small's "What have you done today to make you feel proud" acapella in front of the whole school which caused an astounded and appreciative silence. She sang with such grace and power (better than Heather Small according to one music teacher!) that the words had immense power and brought a tear to the eye.

(Zoe D )So many choices – what to buy, what to do, where to go?
New Year's Eve is our biggest celebration of the year. Not only does everyone love to party but it is a time to reflect on the changes we want to make and resolve to follow through on those changes. Lots of us make New Years Resolutions determined to keep them. We have a huge choice of resolutions. We are lucky we have a choice.
Often when we talk about those suffering and in need they are the faceless many whom we feel sorry for momentarily before we rush off to Geography before choosing from an array of sweets and fizzy drinks in the Grubber.
Here are some resolutions of Repton staff and pupils interspersed with resolutions others may have made in different parts of the world.
I resolve to buy only 2 pairs of Ugg Boots this year as I don’t really need 3. (Lauren)
This year my resolution is to carry by six year old sister the 6 miles to school so that only I get blisters on my bare feet. (Rosie)
every day, 125 million young children are denied access to a fundamental human right–basic education. (Jess)
************************************
I resolve to lose at least a stone in weight (Lizzie K)
This year I resolve to beg harder on the street so not all my brothers will starve to death. (Laura)
Currently figures show that over 1 billion people are starving. if Repton were the world 133 of you would now be starving to death. ( Camilla )
******************************************
I resolve to give up smoking because I know it will kill me (Tommie)
This year I resolve to find my 12 year old son before he is killed or has to kill. I have about a week. He was abducted yesterday by the Congolese army to be trained as a child soldier. (Zoe)
War exploits about 300,000 children as child soldiers (Momoko)
**************************************
I resolve to save for a luxury holiday somewhere hot and sunny in the Caribbean for me and my family (Amy)
This year I resolve to find my daughter aged 5 who disappeared in the earthquake in Haiti: (Siobhan)
220 000 people lost their live in the earthquake, 1 million and a half are still homeless at risk of cholera and rape in makeshift camps.(Tamsin)
(Sophie W) It is so easy to forget about others in our busy lives at Repton and we do so much in the Michalemas term and all work so hard during the Sale of Work that we feel we have done our bit. But have we? Could we do more? Could you afford to give more at collection on Fridays? Do you need to spend all your money in the Grubber or could you do without to help someone dying? Why not join Amnesty International which is a charity that fights for basic human rights and join forces with others like you to change the world. One person can make a difference – you can make a difference.
My New Year’s Resolution is to make a real difference to someone’s life. What's yours?
(Sophie D)Let us pray
Dear Lord,
Give us the vision to see beyond Repton and the generosity of spirit to want to help others in desperate need of our help. We give thanks for our community where we are educated, fed, housed, safe, loved and cared for and pray that others are blessed with the same good fortune this year.
SONG: What have you done today to make yourself feel proud? (Caitlin)
