Cabaret 2011!

Cabaret 2011!

It was wonderful on Thursday evening to enjoy watching this year’s Cabaret in aid of the charity “Passing it On” (www.passingiton.org.uk). There were some fabulous acts, and it was superb to see so many Mitre girls involved in the event.

The traditional Mitre dance was performed as part of the performance. Ellie Rees U6M had done a magnificent job of choreographing the piece and the dancers included girls from across all the year groups in Mitre, with fourteen girls in total making up the dance group. The dancers were supported by Tamsin Bowers U6M, Kiki Betts Dean U6M and Charlotte Graham 5M who sang “All that Jazz” as the dancers took to the stage. Emma Monteiro U6M then performed a solo rendition of “Make you Feel my Love”. This was beautifully crafted and Emma had the audience mesmerised as she held their attention and powerfully sang her piece. Later in the show Kate Dyer became one of the “Stone Roses” as she sang a solo part as part of a trio of girls. This was a fabulous performance and the perfect song with which to end the first half of the show.

The second half of the show included a performance by the Reptiles musical harmony group. They performed a rendition of “Swing low sweet Chariot” in which Charlotte Graham 5M performed the opening section. One of the most amusing dramatic pieces of the evening was performed by Wiebke Green L6M who together with Sandy Harratt (U6S) performed a sketch called “Conversation”. This piece had been conceived by Wiebke and written with Mr McClary as part of the Literacy Society sketches earlier in the year and was performed at Cabaret much to the acclaim of the audience. The jazz band also performed and it was wonderful to see Kit Rees and Eva Lo U6M and Elizabeth Duggleby 5M take to the stage for this part of the evening. Also on stage throughout the show was Kiki Betts Dean U6M who provided backing singing throughout the performances.

Behind the scenes Mitre girls also worked very hard. Hannah Fullelove U6M was working as Stage Manager for her final production at Repton. As always she played a key role in helping the evening to run smoothly. Hannah Barker U6M ran the front of House team for all three of the evening performances and did a wonderful job of co-ordinating the team and making sure that parents and guests were well looked after.

A fantastic Cabaret and wonderful to see so many Mitre girls involved on stage and working with the important event management team. Well done to all involved both on and off stage!
