The second annual Lower Sixth Conference, focussing on “Britain in a New Decade” is well underway. The conference, which is part of the post AS-level programme during which pupils start to think about life beyond The Arch, is covering four aspects of global challenges for the Twenty-First Century:
• Britain’s place in the world
• Creating growth and prosperity
• Welfare reforms: caring for all
• Mending Broken Britain
During the conference the pupils are split into small teams and learn about how these issues will influence their future while working and competing on some challenging tasks.
Each group uses a wide range of resources to prepare the following on their designated topic:
• A power point presentation for an educated audience.
• Two posters, one for primary school pupils and one to be displayed in London to educate the general public.
• A two page summary of the issues.
To help them with their research, we are extremely fortunate to welcome three very distinguished speakers –Tom Avery, one of the bright stars amongst the UK's new generation of explorers, Emma Harrison CBE, a well-known and respected entrepreneur and inspirational leader and Ian Yorsten who is Head of Digital Strategy at Radley College.
