Brilliant Seniors win House Swimming (again!)

The afternoon of December 1st saw all the Houses congregate in the swimming pool for this year's inter-House gala. As reigning champions, the Latham team were keen to do well but, having just lost the Caroline Tyler Relays to Orchard back in September, the boys knew they would be up against it. The Seniors led the way with some inspired individual and relay swimming. Ed Coleman stormed to victory in both the senior individual medley and the senior back stroke, with Finn Birthistle-Cook taking the senior butterfly and Christian Priestley the senior freestyle. The seniors also went on to secure both the relay races and such domination left all the other Houses in our wake...we are senior champions again! There were also some fine performances from those in younger years: Rhodri Richards won the intermediate butterfly and George Bathurst the intermediate breast stroke, but there were also some terrific swims from Joseph Jankinson, Harry Mead, Tristan Howle and Connor Bradbury, all of whom came second in at least one race. The junior team finished third and the intermediates came second, leaving a very tense wait to see if the combined totals would be enough to pip Orchard to first place overall. Sadly for Latham, the Orchard team just proved too strong in the relays, which are worth double points, and this left Latham languishing a mere twelve points behind - Latham 138, Orchard 150. Well done to all the boys for putting in such a fantastic team effort and many congratulations to Orchard who deservedly took the overall title.
