Report: After a comfortable opening victory over Oakham, which allowed everyone pitch time and for the boys to find their feet, came the group-deciding match against Worksop. A quality game of hockey ensued as both sides adapted to the new version of the game well. Both keepers were called into action on a number of occasions and responded accordingly. Stephen Attwood made a couple of excellent saves. A draw was a fair result as neither side did enough to take all three points but, equally, neither side deserved to lose. Nicolas Reineke, until forced off with an injury, played exceptionally well.
Eight goals in the first twelve minutes against Lichfield helped the goal difference sufficiently to top the group. Leo Watton was as sharp and clinical as he was all day and a number of goals were unselfishly passed around the goalkeeper. Byung Lee, from B-Block, had a fine game stopping several short corners and other close range shots impressively.
Adrian Roseanu was a revelation in the semi-final. Having defended so well in the early games, he turned in a complete performance and scored two of the crucial goals. Leo Watton scored the most spectacular, however, with a reverse deflection after a great pass from Will Byas. Charlie Twigg and Jeremy Williams also had a major contribution in the semi-final as the boys kept their discipline better than the Malvern team.
Despite going ahead through an Adrian Roseanu goal in the semi-final, Worskop played some good hockey and were a little more clinical when it mattered most. Three second half goals settled the tie in what was a competitive game. Both teams progress through to the National Final and the Repton boys can be pleased with the progress they made during the day and should be looking forward to testing themselves in the Finals.
