Match Report:
This was a match we were never going to win - even if we had had a full-strength side: a team of 15-16-year-olds needs to be really something very special to beat a team of Sixth-Formers (and a good one at that)...
Ironically, we only conceded two goals in the first half, despite suffering from "coach legs" and playing with little spirit or invention. The introduction of Mikey Thomas towards the end of the first half provided some welcome energy and intelligent movement, but we still ended the opening period the second-best team.
Further injuries to a team already carrying quite a few aches and pains did not help matters - but it is to their credit that they cheerfully played in unfamiliar positions: Andrew Jopson actually looked quite a decent left-back!
A third goal for the opposition early in the second half cemented their dominance: a brilliant solo-run-and-shot by one of their midfielders, and probably the only one of their goals we might have been able to stop. He did seem to dribble around most of our team unchallenged...
This was followed by two wind-assisted lobs over the 'keeper's head, and a cheeky near-post toe-poke, to leave us 6-0 down with 14 minutes left. We had, however, been playing good football in the second half, and had prevented them from scoring a good 15 extra goals, so we were due a reward, which eventually came in the 70th minute when a powerful cross from Jacob Adams found Andrew Findlay's head at the far post, who nodded it down for a well-deserved "consolation" goal.
Goal: Findlay (70)
Man of the Match: Thomas
