Result: Wellingborough won by 10 runs
Wellingborough 134-6, Repton 125-8
Match Report:
Another good performance by the boys unfortunately saw them fall 10 runs shy of Wellingborough’s Total. Repton Bowling first restricted them to 134-6, although had Repton’s bowling been more disciplined, keeping Wellingborough fewer than 90 was a realistic target.
Besides bowling 6 extra overs due to wides and no-balls, when the Repton bowlers put the ball in the right place they caused the Wellingborough batsmen some difficulties. Ethan Coupland Smith bowled well turning the ball sharply at times, however Guy Davis was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 7 overs, 1 Maiden, 25 for 3 wickets.
In pursuit of the Wellingborough total George Hewitt took charge of the attack with an impressive 36 until he fell LBW trying to increase the tempo in an attempt to keep up with the run rate. With only Lane and Redfern just making it into double figures at the top of the order, the target of 135 to win became an uphill battle. The run rate continued to increase despite the Renton’s Batsmen best efforts to keep it as low as possible, but Wellingborough’s target of 135 to win ended up 10 runs too much for the lower order
