Result:
Repton 2-2 Lady Manners
Match Report:
This Lady Manners team thrashed the U14Bs last year and so it is all tribute to a stronger and year-older Repton team that they achieved this result. Despite some scrappy desperation in midfield at times, Repton had all the play at first and it was due to relentless pressure that we scored first: an own goal which was simply a desperate and mis-directed clearance. Lady Manners - playing like an A team - upped their game and Repton, perhaps predictably, relaxed a little. On the whole, relatively new keeper Morris is a very safe pair of hands but he was beaten by a scrambled ball touched in at the post and then by a looping shot which his straining fingers just couldn't tip over.
2-1 down and game on. The energetic play from a big and physical Lady Manners team - first to the ball repeatedly through the first half - could not be sustained. They tired, but all praise to Repton for picking their game up and refusing to be beaten. Passes at last started to connect, and Repton made foray after foray into their box, just failing to finish, until Lloyd latched on to a beautiful cross and tapped it in the net.
Anything could have happened in the next twenty minutes. Either side could have scored and weaker teams would have crumbled under the pressure. This Repton team held on and even threatened to win a number of times with repeated attacks. In summary it was a great match, physical, tight and played in superb spirit. Difficult to pinpoint stars as the boys played like a real team and never gave up. Every player gave 100% and fully deserved this very satisfying result.
